We anticipate our teammates’ needs and communicate early and often, using the input of our peers to operate both fast and right. We have tremendous ambitions and a lot of fun pursuing them — if that excites you, we’d love to have you join us.

About the Role:

The Associate General Counsel - Employment will be Capsule’s strategic advisor and legal partner on employment law matters. As a key member of the Legal team, you will provide cutting edge legal advice, analysis, and ideas to help look after Capsule teammates and ensure employment law compliance across all states where Capsule operates.  You will report to the Deputy General Counsel and collaborate closely with the People team and other internal teams. Specifically, you will:

  • Develop, draft, implement and update employee-related agreements and employment-related policies and procedures to be used by and for Capsule’s teammates;
  • Track developments in labor and employment law across all states where Capsule has operations;
  • Manage and oversee any employee disputes, litigation, and  investigations including coordinating with outside counsel;
  • Oversee the immigration process for any employee sponsorships in coordination with the People team;
  • Collaborate with the People team and other internal teams on strategic initiatives, such as a strategy for remote workers as well as engagement of independent contractors; and
  • Provide support on other legal matters as needed.

About You:

  • You take pride in enabling the best work of others on the team. You think ahead to anticipate the needs of your teammates and you give and get all the facts making it easy for others to make decisions.
  • You can work both fast and right and don't view them as trade-offs. You understand when things require precision and accuracy and where 80% gets you to the desired outcome.
  • You thrive on being pushed and challenged. You communicate effectively both in written form and live / on your feet - you are not fazed by tough questions in the moment.
  • You strike the right balance between putting enough work in to share something, but not going off into a corner for weeks at a time to polish something to perfection.
  • You check your ego at the door. You are interested in finding the right answer vs. always having the right answer.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing with at least one state bar.
  • 4-6 years of experience in labor and employment law at a national law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Strong familiarity with both NY and CA employment law is a plus.
