What you’ll be doing...

The Public Sector Counsel position is a key partner in helping Verizon secure, defend, grow and comply with revenue generating contracts with state and local government and education customers. The Public Sector Counsel will join a team of experienced attorneys providing specialized legal support in public procurement law and complex agreements for the sale of telecom services and emerging technologies. In this role, the Public Sector Counsel will be expected to interact regularly and effectively with senior management and customers and must be creative, strategic, and innovative while handling a high volume of matters and focused on bringing those matters to a timely conclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support for state and local government and education customers including proposal review, contract negotiation, interpretation, and closeout.
  • Advise with respect to affiliate transactions.
  • Support the offers of new products on master supply agreements and direct contracts.
  • Support compliance with the procurement, disclosure, and ethical requirements associated with doing business with government entities.
  • Assess the viability of and, where appropriate, direct pre-bid and post-award protest efforts.
  • Advise on a range of legal, regulatory, privacy and compliance issues including information security, CPNI, ECPA, False Claims Act, procurement integrity, conflicts of interest, gifts/gratuities and other issues that arise in the public procurement setting.
  • Perform all functions with high sense of urgency.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

 

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Active and in good standing with a state bar and, if necessary, eligible for limited In-House Counsel Licensure.
  • Relevant and recent legal experience including significant experience in public procurement law at the federal and/or state/local level.
  • Good research and writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Large law firm experience.
  • Experience in Public Grants/Infrastructure Funding, Erate, and Emergency Connectivity Fund .
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrated ability to close matters in an ethical, urgent and timely manner.
