The Role
The Legal Ninja team (Palantir’s in-house legal team) works to proactively address legal issues so that Palantir can continue to drive positive impact in the world. Our IP Ninjas are the legal backbone of our intellectual property strategy across all domains: patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret. In this role you’ll become a go-to advisor on the protection of Palantir’s cutting edge technology. You’ll work on a wide array of intellectual property matters, including patent harvesting and portfolio development, licensing and partnership agreements, open source strategy and compliance, product development issues, and strategic advice for product and business teams.
You have strong technical and interpersonal skills, meaning you are comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders from software developers and internal business teams to negotiating licenses with opposing counsel. You'll maintain focus on the details and can take on novel, complex issues as they arise, whilst also holding the vision needed to bring large and multi-stepped projects to completion. Although focused on intellectual property, as a member of the Legal Ninja team you're excited to work on the broad range of projects that arise at a fast-paced, dynamic company.
Core Responsibilities
- Become an expert in and stay up-to-date with Palantir’s state-of-the-art technology.
- Collaborate with our engineering teams to identify and protect innovative products and solutions.
- Develop and implement intellectual property strategies in response to evolving business needs.
- Draft, review and negotiate intellectual property, SaaS and partnership agreements.
- Answer questions and offer practical legal advice on a wide range of IP and other issues.
What We Value
- JD and 4+ years of intellectual property-related legal practice experience (in-house experience preferred).
- Demonstrated interest in new software technologies and an eagerness to dive into technical details.
- Experience with patent prosecution, open source compliance, or product counseling.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent business judgment, with the ability to translate legal advice into actionable guidance for product and business teams.
Preferred
- Degree and/or practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
- Familiarity with programming languages and software development practices.
