Position Summary:
The Law department provides a centralized source of corporate legal services for the purpose of representing the interests of Securian Financial Group and its affiliates. In representing the Company, services will be performed on behalf of the duly authorized constituents of the corporate client, namely its directors, officers, employees, agents, and policyholders, but at all times the Company’s interests shall be paramount to that of any constituent. Services are to be performed in a professional, competent manner to the utmost of the attorney’s ability and within the standards of authority given.
Assists senior attorneys in serving two distinct lines of business within the Litigation group. Also provides legal and research support to the department’s other attorneys as needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Litigation Case Management:
Maintain an appropriate case load
Assist with overall case management in relation to Bankruptcies, Garnishments, levies and child support
Export documents for litigation and responding to subpoenas
Communicate with any business unit to ensure proper documentation will be collected and produced per any external or internal request related to Bankruptcies, Garnishments, levies and child support
Legal Holds: This portion of the position will be working closely with our litigation attorneys as well as members of our Corporate Compliance group to ensure proper submission of Legal Holds and eDiscovery management.
Help review, draft and maintain all legal holds and to ensure all custodians under legal hold understand their legal hold obligation
Maintain legal hold tool to ensure legal holds are properly distributed
Communicate with corporate compliance to ensure proper documents and electronic data will be collected and retained per legal obligation
Assist in creating efficient workflows and procedures surrounding all legal holds
Qualifications:
1+ years previous legal assistant and/or paralegal experience at a law firm or corporate law department
Ability to research privacy laws, jurisdictional differences, and any other request by attorneys
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to distill topics into straight-forward explanations and disclosures.
Self-directed and disciplined in order to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong organization and planning skills necessary to adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Legal Assistant or Paralegal Certification is helpful but not required for this position
Experience with bankruptcies, garnishments, levies and child support distribution

Physical job requirements:
Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 3-6 hours per day
Ability to utilize telephone for approximately 1-3 hours per day
Ability to perform simple grasping including handwriting, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, etc. periodically throughout entire workday
