About the job
We're seeking a Senior Employment Counsel to join our growing global employment legal team and provide exceptional employment law support to our People Team, the business, and other stakeholders across the globe. This position will be based in the U.S.
Responsibilities
In this role, you'll be responsible for:
Providing employment law counseling, advice, and day-to-day support for the People Team on a variety of employment issues (including employee relations, internal investigations, accommodations, leaves of absence, performance management, terminations, mobility, and immigration)
Supporting our People Team, with a focus on collaborating with key stakeholders to build and improve People processes and policies.
Developing and supporting rollout of employment policies (including diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, hiring practices, leaves of absence, immigration and mobility, accommodations, wage and hour, compensation, and benefits) to ensure best practices and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Partnering with cross-functional teams to provide strategic, business-oriented employment law guidance for successful execution of company initiatives and programs.
Collaborating with the People Team to develop and conduct training and education programs for employees, managers, and leaders.
Investigating and responding to federal and state administrative complaints (including EEOC and local agency charges)
Partnering with the litigation team on employment-related litigation matters.
Supporting merger and acquisition transactions and related integration of employees.
Drafting, revising, and advising on employment-related agreements (including offer letters, confidentiality and intellectual property agreements, separation agreements, and sales plan documents).
Required Qualifications:
6+ years of experience handling employment issues in a demanding and innovative environment (with at least 3 years at a leading law firm);
Strong counseling experience providing advice across a wide range of employment law and HR issues, including recruiting & hiring, diversity & inclusion, background checks / screening, employee relations, immigration sponsorship, employee classification, leaves of absence, contingent workforce management, compensation and benefits, and other employment-related matters;
Experience with managing employment litigation, preferably in-house, and experience handling employment matters before federal and state courts and administrative agencies;
Strong understanding of California and federal employment law;
Exceptional written and verbal communication, analytical, and organizational skills;
Ability to prioritize and manage numerous simultaneous projects under deadline pressure;
Ability to bring a practical, business lens to difficult compliance questions;
Confidence to raise an issue (legal or practical) if you spot one; and
Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in at least one U.S. state bar.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with fast-paced technology companies
2+ years of direct or indirect (e.g., via a secondment) experience working in-house
Experience handling international employment issues in APAC or LATAM
Desire to find flexible, creative solutions to complex and difficult challenges, and work in a high-ambiguity, high-change environment
Broad experience advising on sales compensation issues; and
Experience supporting merger and acquisition transactions and related integration of employees
Location
This role is eligible to work from a U.S. office or work remotely in the U.S.

Please note that this information is provided for those hired in Colorado only, and this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado as well.

Denver/Boulder Metro:
Salary Range: $146,220- $201,053
Rest of Colorado:
Salary Range: $127,943- $175,921
Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
