Senior Counsel (Madison, WI or Remote in WI)
This role will work with the internal investment team developing a portfolio of commercial mortgage loans, and will work with outside counsel to negotiate and finalize the transaction documents for the loans. The successful candidate should have relevant real estate law experience, including title and survey work.
Job Purpose:
These legal professionals are charged with providing legal expertise to all levels of management in the conduct of company business for CUNA Mutual Group and its Affiliates. Each professional in this role will have primary responsibility and accountability for their assigned area. This individual will also work collaboratively with attorneys holding this role in other areas of responsibility.

Job Responsibilities:
Ensure protection of companies' legal rights.
Represent companies' interests with regulatory and legislative bodies in the various applicable industries including insurance, investments, and credit unions. Activities related to all areas include examinations, filings, product design and approval, licensing, authority, rating plans, and influencing proposed regulations.
Provide legal options and opinions to facilitate reaching corporate objectives.
Ensure appropriate corporate legal compliance across all areas of the law.
Inform and advise senior executives and staff regarding legal issues.
Ensure efficient and effective provision of legal services.

Job Requirements:
Juris Doctor degree and continuing legal education within areas of specialty and responsibility.
Authorized to practice law in the State of Wisconsin or applicable jurisdiction.
Generally up to six years of legal experience with overall expert status in specific law areas.
In-depth knowledge and experience in the processes and procedures necessary to effectively represent CUNA Mutual
Group in the judicial system, before governmental and regulatory agencies and in legislative bodies.
Basic knowledge and experience in CUNA Mutual Group operations and corporate affairs, including objectives, strategies,
products and programs.
Good negotiation, analysis, reasoning, creativity, and judgment skills.
