Current Need
McKesson's well-regarded General Counsel Organization is seeking an experienced healthcare regulatory lawyer to support McKesson's physician practice management (The U.S. Oncology Network) and clinical research site management (US Oncology Research) businesses, and work in collaboration with the legal and compliance teams supporting McKesson's other oncology-related businesses, including McKesson's oncology technology and insights business Ontada.
The US Oncology Network is a collection of approximately 65 physician practices consisting of more than 1,400 cancer physicians who care for more than 1.2 million patients diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year. The Network is managed by a management team at McKesson Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services, a division of McKesson Corporation.
Most of the sites within the US Oncology Network participate in US Oncology Research. To date, over 85,000 patients have entered onto a clinical trial managed by US Oncology Research. US Oncology Research has played a role in the testing of over 100 FDA-approved cancer therapies.
Position Description
Primary responsibilities:

Provides health care regulatory advice (AKS, Stark Law, FCA, CMS and state rules and regulations) related to arrangements with physician practices, other health care providers, research sponsors and service providers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers

Provides legal advice related to privacy and security of patient data, including review of use cases and governance of patient data in research and health care operations, including day-to-day legal support for the teams performing data analytics for the practice management and research businesses

Provides routine day-to-day legal support for the business teams supporting the clinical operations of the oncology practices in The US Oncology Network

Manages a team of legal professionals (currently one attorney and four legal specialists) responsible for supporting U.S. Oncology Research, a clinical research site management organization, and provides guidance on legal issues related to clinical trials

Coordinates with other attorneys in the McKesson General Counsel Organization on privacy, litigation, labor and employment, IP and other matters arising in The US Oncology Network

Frequent interactions with other internal stakeholders across functional groups.
Critical Skills

Law firm experience combined with in-house experience, preferred

Excellent legal analysis and risk assessment skills, and ability to communicate complicated legal considerations to both business and other legal stakeholders

Knowledge of payer, billing and coding, privacy and licensure issues at the federal and state level relative to physician practices

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Excellentinterpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice to all levels within the company, including senior business executives

Ability to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including attorneys from other areas of the General Counsel Organization, regulatory and compliance professionals, and business operations managers).

Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal team. Ability to lead by example including a willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and undertake day-to-day legal work.

Proven management experience, and a strong desire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals
Minimum Requirements
10+ years of corporate law experience
Education
Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials. Member of a jurisdiction is required.
