Land Conservation Paralegal and Contracts Specialist

Sanctuary: Lincoln Headquarters

Works with the Director of Land Conservation, and with other Massachusetts Audubon Society (MAS) Land Protection Department staff, to provide or procure paralegal, due diligence, and other services in support of our land conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic business and legal research
  • Preparation of purchase and sale and option to purchase contracts and other legal documents
  • Assisting with preparation and ordering of due diligence, including but not limited to ordering and reviewing municipal lien certificates, title examinations and title insurance commitments, environmental site assessments, appraisals, and surveys
  • Drafting closing instructions and documents
  • Obtaining mortgage discharges
  • Preparing financial forms to ensure accurate accounting and distribution of funds at closing
  • Obtaining legal documents after closing and ensuring compliance with closing instructions
  • Maintaining effective organizational and tracking systems for all projects
  • Carry out all work in compliance with the Land Trust Accreditation Standards and Practices
  • Providing guidance and training to others as needed
  • Work closely with Project Managers and outside counsel as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in paralegal or legal assistant studies plus four (4) years of combined legal and administrative experience OR equivalent qualifications acquired through coursework and/or related job experience that demonstrates assumption of significant responsibilities for supporting and coordinating legal work related to conveyance of interests in land.
  • Knowledge of title examinations, title review, title certification, document filings, survey plans, appraisal requirements.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy, high paced environment

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range is $65,000 - $69,000, commensurate with experience and includes a full benefit package.
