Senior Associate, Patent Paralegal

Location: Parsippany

Summary:

Handles global patent administrative tasks with Patent offices, Law firms and Patent Counsels. Provides support for projects to Global Patent Counsels and Global Patent Team. Provides locally support to the Chief US patent counsel and two other US based Director patent counsels.

Responsibilities:

Review and manage legal and non-legal deadlines, term lists, coordinate paperwork (power of attorneys, assignments, etc).

Handle daily official correspondence and e-mails.

Instruct and liaise with external law firms, internal teams, inventors and patent offices.

Assist in the management of the Annuities and Invoicing matters.

Support Patent Counsels concerning preparation documentation/reports, portfolio review, budget monitoring, etc.

Ensure electronic and paper documentation and the docketing in the IP management System.

Super user/Admin of IP Management System.

Maintain and enhance docketing, archiving, case management, intranet and other internal databases and systems.

Follow the best practices.

Analyze and adapt processes in order to improve efficiency.

Assist Patent Counsels regarding patent filing, prosecution, maintenance, licensing, FTO, Legal opinion with Counsel input.

Participate in patent portfolio management and Patent Committee preparation and follow up.

Participate in certain IP projects and training courses.

Support Patent Counsels in Due Diligence and Litigation matters (internal discovery, Legal Hold process and database).

Requirements:

University education or legal/paralegal education.

Paralegal certificate preferred.

Professional 5 years experience minimum with patent paralegal/assistant within the Pharmaceutical industry or law firm.

Solid understanding of database.

Knowledge of Anaqua is a plus.

Proficient with MS Pack Office.

Excellent communication skills.

Excellent time management skills to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Team player.

Able to work independently to complete tasks, respond to department requests, and collaborate with others to identify solutions.

Sensitivity to working across offices and cultures.

Maintain the integrity of the IP Management and Annuity Systems.

Accurate IP records and docketing.

Support the Patent Counsels and the paralegal team and customer satisfactory.

Take responsibility of various tasks and be able to carry them out in due time.
