Who You'll Work With

You will be based in one of our US offices as part of our Healthcare Systems & Services department. You will report to the managing counsel for the combined pharmaceutical & healthcare practice. You will work with colleagues from the wider healthcare legal team as well as other legal teams (e.g. digital and analytics, privacy, procurement and public sector).

What You'll Do

You will advise on a range of healthcare regulatory requirements, including fraud and abuse; coding and reimbursement; value-based care; mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures; and healthcare privacy.
In this role, you will negotiate a variety of commercial contracts such as client services agreements and banking as a service, whilst also reviewing client deliverables and resolving legal issues that occur during client engagements.
You will primarily support engagements with healthcare provider clients in the U.S. (e.g., hospitals, physician groups, and other types of ancillary services). You will also support McKinsey’s healthcare client service teams and legal colleagues on contractual and other transactional matters and you will serve as a strategic thought partner to legal department leaders.
Lastly, you will develop best practices, policies and guidelines on healthcare related legal and risk topics.

Qualifications

  • 7+ of legal experience advising different types of healthcare providers
  • Deep regulatory expertise in U.S. healthcare laws (e.g., Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Stark Law, Coding & Reimbursement, HIPAA, Medicaid, Medicare) and transactional experience negotiating agreements with stakeholders across the healthcare value chain, including hospitals, physician groups, ancillary service providers, and health insurers
  • Experience working with complex healthcare organizations – ideally as in-house legal counsel to a large health system, or as an associate at a top law firm serving healthcare provider clients
  • Intellect, strategic capability, strong business acumen and adept relationship and influencing skills
  • Proven success in influencing senior management in a rapidly changing environment
  • A self-starter with a thoughtful, calm and deliberative approach and a consultative mindset balanced with an action orientation
