Purpose:

ORNL Legal Directorate is seeking an experienced legal counsel to provide advice and legal support to staff and management at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in a variety of areas spanning the full scope of business operations with primary responsibility in the area of employment law. In this position you will also be expected to work to acquire knowledge and expertise and take on responsibility in other areas spanning the broad scope of ORNL operations.

Qualifications Required:
J.D. Degree from an ABA accredited law school is required with a minimum of eight (8) years of employment law experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney in a state of the United States, with the ability to gain admission to practice as an attorney in Tennessee and must be an active member in good standing of the bar. Excellent academic and employment credentials. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Highly developed writing and communication skills, strong counseling and negotiating skills, and the ability to operate successfully in a culture that values consultation and collaboration. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be committed to provide quality service to clients in a professional services organization. Working knowledge of various related statutes, regulations and case law that pertain to employment law, discrimination, diversity and equal employment opportunity is required. Ability to obtain and maintain Q clearance.
Qualifications Preferred:
An understanding of the Department of Energy (DOE) as well as its facilities and management and operating contractor system would be of great benefit.
Work Direction and Interfaces:
Position reports to the General Counsel. Interfaces with clients, administrative staff and managers within ORNL.
