In collaboration with the General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer of Baptist Community Services, this position establishes, manages, and evaluates services provided within the framework of BCS policies for the Legal and Compliance departments. Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory and legal requirements in providing optimal services to staff and customers.

ESSENTIALS OF JOB:
  • Assists with general legal matters, including but not limited to contract review, matters relating to OSHA, HIPAA, employment laws, and other federal and state legal and compliance issues. (frequently)
  • Monitors proposed, adopted, and amended rules, laws, and regulations applicable to BCS. (occasionally)
  • Provides multiple levels of support for the BCS Safety Committee and Compliance Committee with regards to legal and compliance issues. (occasionally)
  • Responsible for facilitating compliance rounds (e.g., HIPAA, Life Safety Code, OSHA) and follow-up education with staff. (frequently)
  • Organizes and manages contract notebooks, including timeliness and efficacy of contract viability. (occasionally)
  • Assists with investigations, resolutions, and documenting HR and compliance issues, as needed. (occasionally)
  • Assists with establishing, documenting, and amending legal and compliance-related policies and procedures in collaboration with the General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer. (occasionally)
  • Must be able to commit the time necessary from an attendance and punctuality standpoint to accomplish the above specified Essentials of Job. (constantly)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Must be a licensed attorney in the state of Texas. At least 3+ years of experience in the field or in a related area preferred. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the compliance and legal fields. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

SKILLS:
Ability to work independently and coordinate/implement/manage projects concurrently in an unstructured environment. Interpersonal skills ability to analyze and independently resolve complex problems. Ability to guide, direct, and educate the staff on selected compliance and legal issues. Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement programs, processes, and procedures in compliance with standards. Ability to make presentations, interact effectively at all levels of the organization, and represent BCS to external agents.

PHYSICAL/SPECIAL DEMANDS:
1. Visual acuity to prepare and assess reports.

2. Must lift or move up to 50 lbs. or more with assistance, occasionally; 25 lbs., frequently; 10 lbs., constantly.

3. Must be able to position self to reach floor level to six feet from the floor.

4. Must be able to move throughout the facilities.

5. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of up to two hours at a time.

6. Aural acuity necessary to respond to staff and representatives of the community.
