Job Summary:

Yellow Shoes is the award-winning, in-house agency that develops creative strategies and solutions to support Walt Disney's DPEP (Disney Parks, Products and Experiences). Yellow Shoes is dedicated to helping support the business and building the Disney brand. Business Affairs serves as the bridge between Yellow Shoes and Legal/Brand partners.

The Business Affairs Manager is an essential team member of the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products team. This Business Affairs Manager is an agency expert and daily contact on all SAG-AFTRA and non-union production contracts, vendor and talent estimates, talent residual agreements, music licensing, contracts, rights and trademark clearances for proposed branding, taglines, signage and design in partnership with TWDC legal counsel.

The Business Affairs Manager has a hybrid responsibility that includes reviewing and advising YS creative and production teams on creative materials. The Business Affairs Manager will manage broadcast content, digital, social media, print and photography across lines of business and IP. This includes talent, copyright and intellectual property issues as well as advise on next steps for scripts, rough-cuts and final creative accounting for risk and clearance concerns. The Business Affairs Manager is the first line of review and counsel, followed by TWDC legal counsel as the final arbiter.

Responsibilities:

Our Business Affairs Manager will work highly collaborative and integrated fashion across other Business Affairs and Legal Affairs members of The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) and members of DPEP's creative, marketing, production, and franchise management groups.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • You will advocate on behalf of Yellow Shoes creative work.
  • Exhibit proficiency in advertising law and communications guidelines with evolving legal/contractual, talent residual, brand nomenclature issues and regulations
    Ensure Yellow Shoes is following corporate and regulatory guidelines in specified areas
  • Coordinate and review all Yellow Shoes creative output for legal/compliance issues (third-party rights, copyright notification, claim substantiation)
  • Synchronizes with internal Business Affairs partners to oversee scripts/usage approvals, rights clearances and character integrity with Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) and Disney Character Voices
  • Prioritize items for further review/consultation with Disney lawyers, Safety and Brand
  • Stewardship when warranted
  • Consult on service agreements with outside agencies, photographers/videographers and manage wage/labor payments through payment companies
  • Maintain clear and succinct notes/comments in Work-Front project management system as applicable
  • Establish client relationships with frequent communications concerning deal negotiations, timelines and any potential contingencies
  • Contribute to drafting contracts/agreements (together with Legal/Procurement) for production, illustration services and other services the Yellow Shoes team procures.
    In collaboration with other Business Affairs partners maintains database of completed contract/agreements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of marketing, advertising, business affairs or legal affairs experience
  • Negotiating skills, drafting abilities
  • Prioritization and time management skills with the ability to execute against multiple, high-priority projects
  • Maintain high level of respect from others within the agency (including leadership), TWDC legal counsel and across the broader Marketing and Sales organization
  • Understanding of variety of communication mediums including video, print, digital, email, collateral, OOH, and the production process supporting each
  • Judgment, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Familiar with applications/systems for project management (e.g. Excel, Workfront, SharePoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SAG-AFTRA Talent Residual parameters
  • Knowledge of music rights/usage
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language fluency

Required Education

  • 4-year Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience

Preferred Education

  • Paralegal Certificate
  • Legal/Law (JD) Degree
