The JPMorgan Chase Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the firm and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the firm’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.  

Chase Merchant Services (MS) is a line of business within Wholesale Payments and is a global merchant acquirer that processes card authorizations and settlements between retailers, issuing banks, and the credit card associations/networks. MS provides services to more than 286,000 merchants in US, Canada, and Europe and settles approximately $1 trillion in merchant sales per year. In addition, MS is one of the largest merchant acquires in merchant processing volume in the US and is a leading provider of payment, fraud and data security for companies large and small and capable of authorizing transactions in more than 130 currencies.

Reporting to an attorney in the MS legal group, the successful candidate for this position is a highly motivated, results-oriented attorney who will assist in the creation, improvement and negotiation of Merchant Service strategic transaction agreements and provide advice on a variety of issues arising in the Small and Medium Business (“SMB”) segment.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Draft, structure and negotiate various MS agreements with emphasis on Payment Facilitator and Referral Partner related agreements
  • Provide strategic and legal advice regarding SMB products and initiatives within MS, including various strategic relationships
  • Advise SMB on legal, business and reputational risks
  • Coordinate with Legal Department members in other lines of business on a variety of legal, regulatory and business matters

 

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ relevant experience payments business
  • Self-starter with strong business judgment, strategic thinking, creativity and common sense
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills and ability to succinctly advise SMB officers about risks, challenges and potential solutions
  • Qualified to practice law in a United States jurisdiction
