SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel, Privacy and Digital Platform, will manage all activities related to privacy compliance for LG Electronics in the United States to ensure appropriate controls are in place to mitigate privacy risks, cyber-security risks, and provide business legal support for the company’s info-security, ecommerce, digital marketing, ThinQ and other mobile applications, WebOS and other consumer technology-enabled operations. This position will support all aspects of LG Electronics business in the United States, including consumer electronics, home appliances, B2B products and services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide privacy guidance and manage compliance for LG Electronics’ privacy program in the United States, including conducting privacy risk and business process assessments and conducting privacy awareness and training activities consistent with legal requirements
  • Advise and support Company’s external privacy notices, employee privacy notices, internal privacy and data handling policies/procedures, and other materials supporting the company’s privacy program
  • Support compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act and other applicable federal and states privacy laws and regulations (VPPA, CPRA, VCDPA, CPA), CAN-SPAM (email), TCPA (SMS)
  • Supervise responses to U.S. consumer inquiries regarding privacy
  • Stay abreast of key trends and best practices in the privacy area, update the company US privacy program to address same, and make compliance recommendations to management
  • Collaborate with the Information Security, Risk Management, Compliance and Information Technology departments to identify and control privacy and cyber-security risks, including co-leading the data incident response team
  • Serve as US privacy resource for LG Electronics’ global legal, compliance and business functions in Korea, Canada, and other regions
  • Advise on legal compliance for e-commerce sales operations including FTC guidance, PCI, CAN-SPAM, TCPA and other applicable regulatory requirements
  • Support negotiation of agreements with vendors handling personal information, agreements related to e-commerce and digital marketing activities, and other agreements necessary for the company’s digital platform functions
  • Advise on reporting obligations and other measures to minimize risk for potential cyber-security issues

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD degree plus at least 10 years’ relevant experience
  • CIPP certification required
  • Experience authoring privacy policies, privacy by design initiatives, and conducting privacy impact assessments
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. and global privacy laws
  • Strong execution and project management skills and ability to corral stakeholders from across a global organization on cross-functional projects
  • In-house legal experience preferred, particularly in connection with technology platforms
  • Experience negotiating complex technology agreements
  • Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects with aggressive time lines
  • Position located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, with limited travel (<10%) required
