We seek an experienced Director, Data Protection (Commercial) Counsel to support Splunk’s commercial privacy and security program initiatives. This role’s primary focus is to align Splunk’s commercial privacy and security obligations to Splunk’s world-wide contractual, legal and regulatory practices. You will work closely with other members of Splunk’s Data Protection Team as well as Splunk’s Commercial Legal and Security Teams to maintain and evolve Splunk’s commercial data protection terms on a global scale. You will lead a team responsible for developing and enhancing internal/external content related to privacy and security. The role will report to Splunk’s Sr. Director, Data Protection Officer. Splunk is based in the San Francisco Bay Area; for this position, full-time remote is available (Eastern or Central time zone preferred).

Responsibilities: I want to and can do that!
The successful candidate will:
- Lead a team of lawyers and contract negotiators globally in the negotiation of privacy and security terms in customer/vendor/product agreements
- be authoritative in the areas of product security, cloud security, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity frameworks
- help craft Splunk's negotiating positions and effectively communicate them to customers/vendors/partners
- collaborate with Splunk's Field Sales and Commercial Legal organizations to continuously improve and support Splunk's commercial practices
- Help mature Splunk’s privacy and security programs/frameworks
- Support programs for the use of data in product development and deployment
- Perform other responsibilities as needed
Requirements: I’ve already done that or have that!
The successful candidate must have:
- At least 10-15 years’ experience with a leading software or technology company
- Expert knowledge of product security, cloud security, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity and emerging technologies
- Expert knowledge of ISO/SOC2/HIPAA/FedRAMP security programs
- Expert knowledge of European Union data protection law (GDPR), US data protection laws (CCPA/CPRA/HIPAA)
- Working knowledge of other key data protection laws relevant to Splunk’s business (e.g., the Australian Privacy Act, PIPL, Japanese, and Singaporean privacy laws) a strong plus
- Excellent management skills with a proven track record of committing to results and building impactful teams
- Strong history of successful cross-functional collaboration
- J.D. from a premier law school and licensed to practice in the U.S.
- Excellent judgment and sense of humor
