What you will be doing

We are looking for an agile, organized, get-things-done project and people leader for our legal operations team.  

Flexibility and being a strong utility player with excellent management and communication skills are key. In addition to leading efficiency projects, this person will be expected to lead on various day-to-day legal operations workstreams. These workstreams include building and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge management system, onboarding new hires, event planning, subscription management, and a host of other things we encounter in an ever-expanding international legal department.

This position is "office-flex", meaning that it is a hybrid of in-office (Conshohocken, PA) and remote work capabilities. 

  • Serve as project manager and leader for a wide range of legal operations workflows and initiatives 
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop best-in-class practices and work to drive department efficiency at all levels. This includes contract life-cycle management, selection and optimal use of technology in collaboration with corporate IT, and creation of a comprehensive knowledge management repository
  • Centrally manage all department subscriptions 
  • Champion and track implementation of department-wide performance goals
  • Serve as lead event planner for department events, such as the department-wide legal conference
  • Manage in-person workstation designations in coordination with Workplace Services (floor plan/workspace/office assignments)
  • Lead a team of legal operations support staff as assigned; deliver clear expectations, and provide ongoing coaching, develop staff, and promote a positive work environment
  • Professionally handle sensitive information

What your background should look like 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in legal operations or project management
  • Experience in a law firm or legal department is required 
  • People management experience required
  • Proven track-record of strong leadership and communication ability in a team environment
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and drive efficiencies within a large and diverse organization
  • Experience implementing initiatives based on the CLOC™ Core 12 functions of Legal Operations model is preferred
  • Dynamic self-starter with a passion for efficiency and project management 
  • Strong leader and problem-solver. Able to successfully navigate internal dynamics to achieve suburb results
  • Extremely organized and attentive to detail
  • Able to thrive in a high-paced, fast-changing, and sometimes unpredictable work environment 
  • Able to lead projects and initiatives with an international scope 
  • Able to network effectively internally at AB outside of the legal department to solve problems
  • Team-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused and professional demeanor
  • Life-long learner of in-house legal department best practices and standards. Able to leverage legal ops peer groups to determine best practices
  • Adept at technical tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and document sharing and e-signing tools
