PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide litigation support to the operations Legal department; to prepare and present reports related to claims against the Company; to conduct initial investigation and resolution of claims as requested and within assigned authorities; and to provide support to legal counsel responsible for claims.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides legal support and research skills to operations Legal department; works with outside counsel, field operations and in-house counsel t ensure adequate representation of colleagues in subpoena matters.
  • Analyzes incoming legal documents and ensures they are indexed to correct claim(s) and uploaded into appropriate system(s).
  • Prepares comprehensive, complex and accurate reports to assist legal counsel in analysis of E&O claims to meet client specific, program or company senior management needs; presents reports and case status to legal counsel and management.
  • Compiles, reviews and analyzes claims reports and communicates data to legal counsel.
  • Conducts investigation of claims to include interviewing appropriate colleagues, reviewing claim files, researching applicable laws and regulations, and utilizing information technology to obtain other information necessary to administer the claim.
  • Makes liability determinations within assigned authority; assists operations with Correction of Error plans; manages claims to resolution; and maintains accurate current file documentation.
  • Assists with reporting appropriate claims to carrier and responding to carrier requests.
  • Manages Sedgwick's policy and procedures for responding to Department of Insurance and Consumer Complaints and subpoenas.
  • Provides direction as needed to other paralegals and support staff.

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).
  • Travels as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

Associate degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Paralegal certification required.

 

Experience

Six (6) years of operations legal experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Knowledge of JURIS claims management system
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
