About the Role

We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced commercial attorney to join Uber’s Autonomous Mobility & Delivery legal team as we partner across the AV industry! If you’re passionate about tech transactions, creating industry-first frameworks, and transforming the way that people go where they want and get what they need, come and join this bold team as we scale Uber’s AV product offerings.

This Senior Counsel will own a wide range of commercial matters including drafting and negotiating partner agreements that govern autonomous vehicle deployments across mobility and delivery use cases, integrating safety, data sharing, intellectual property, regulatory, and privacy principles. You’ll also provide counseling on related product integrations, working directly with business clients to launch autonomous vehicles across the Uber platform.

What You'll Do

• Bring deep commercial perspective to the team, finding creative solutions to white space issues during drafting.
• Engage and negotiate with partners, with a full-view integration of risk and legal controls in commercial agreements and other outward-facing terms.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues on other legal and cross-functional teams, such as Safety, Policy, IP, Privacy & Security, Litigation, Payments, and Marketing to provide comprehensive advice.
• Be an active and trusted business partner to operations, product, engineering, and business development professionals that launch autonomous services and products at Uber.
• Review product features and programmatic initiatives to ensure legal, regulatory, safety, and risk-mitigation considerations are factored into development requirements and operational decisions.

Basic Qualifications

• J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial legal experience in private practice, in-house, and/or government.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with autonomous vehicles, mobility, or on-demand delivery platforms.
• At least two (2) years of in-house experience is highly preferred.
• Commercial and contracting experience in a regulated industry across multiple markets, delivering clear, actionable terms for clients, customers, and partners.
• Excellent business judgment and high comfort level advising senior leaders on legal issues related to technology and/or software platforms.
• Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus.
• Clear communicator, team orientated, and willing to take initiative while thinking two steps ahead.
• Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.

For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $204,000 per year - $226,500 per year.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $227,000 per year - $252,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $227,000 per year - $252,000 per year.

For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $227,000 per year - $252,000 per year.
