Job Description

Position Overview
As an Assistant General Counsel – Permitting & Local Affairs, you will provide guidance to Invenergy’s business operations, focusing primarily on permitting efforts throughout the lifecycle of our energy generation, storage, and transmission projects.  In addition, you may assist with other general legal matters and various corporate transactions as they arise, and other matters of interest to the company.

Responsibilities

  • Providing advice on federal, state, and local law and procedure governing land use for the construction and operation of energy facilities.
  • Supporting permit application, hearing, and related litigation process.
  • Guiding negotiations with local governments on development agreements, road use agreements, decommissioning requirements, and tax abatement agreements.
  • Providing analysis in support of policy and legislative strategy.
  • Management of external counsel.

Required Qualifications

  • JD required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required, preferably within either a law firm or in a similar context that resulted in real world experience.
  • Experience in litigation and/or within local governments and administrative agencies.
  • Working knowledge of real estate development process and land use regulations.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability and desire to work effectively in a team environment and with local constituents and decision makers.
  • The position may require overtime and scheduling to fit the needs of the client.
  • Some travel may be necessary.

  • Energy project permitting
  • Environmental experience
