Position Summary

Sony Corporation of America (SCA), the U.S. headquarters of Sony, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior attorney with substantial corporate transactional experience and a proven track record of successfully managing a team. The SCA Legal Department provides comprehensive, proactive legal services to internal clients and coordinates closely with the legal teams of our global affiliates and its parent company.  We work in a fast-paced, hands-on, small-team environment, where the ability to multi-task and manage various matters through a highly matrixed organization effectively are critical.

This position will report directly to the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of SCA, and manage a core team of corporate lawyers that handle a wide variety of legal agreements and matters covering areas such as IT, sourcing, HR, information security, marketing, technology and AI.

This role will be a hybrid position based in our NYC headquarters office. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of lawyers and paralegal supporting multiple internal client groups with operations in the IT, information security, strategic sourcing, HR, marketing and other technology areas
  • Oversee all aspects of contracting for SCA and lead negotiations with key significant partners, vendors and customers (as necessary)
  • Coordinate the legal group’s work with lawyers and professionals in other functional areas such as privacy, information security, intellectual property, and risk management to proactively manage and address any issues and risks that may be implicated in any SCA agreements in those areas
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to oversee and ensure efficient and effective end-to-end contract life cycle management

 

Qualifications

  • A J.D. degree with membership in good standing in at least one state (preferably New York).
  • Minimum of 15 years of related legal experience in a top law firm and/or large corporation
  • Experience managing teams and collaborating across a wide range of business stakeholders to drive matters to conclusion
  • Ability to assess risk strategically and help clients find solutions that enable them to mitigate risk while achieving their goals
  • Significant experience with various technology agreements, including cloud computing, AI, blockchain/NFTs, metaverse and other cutting edge technologies and the related issues, strongly preferred
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, U.S. and Global cybersecurity and data protection laws and regulations
  • A demonstrated ability to work very closely with the business side and strong experience negotiating and drafting significant complex commercial agreements
  • Ability to motivate and influence highly skilled professionals to achieve major organizational goals
  • Strong business acumen and ability to balance legal analysis with a pragmatic approach that considers the goals, risk tolerance and priorities of stakeholders
  • Enthusiastic “team player” who enjoys partnering with cross-functional teams to solve complex issues, invest in others, and work collaboratively to achieve consensus across diverse viewpoints
  • Excellent project management skills and a bias toward process improvements
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex and technical issues into clear and concise actionable options
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be eligible to work unrestricted in the U.S.

 

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $300,000.00 to 330,000.00. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.  The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
