What you will be doing

The Senior Paralegal will be a member of the Albertsons Companies’ Contracting Center of Excellence (“CCOE”) team within Albertsons’ Legal Department. The CCOE manages a variety of complex commercial, technology, and data use legal issues and supports Albertsons’ strategic initiatives.

Under the direction and guidance of CCOE Counsel, the Senior Paralegal will assist a team of attorneys that support the Technology & Engineering, Data, Intellectual Property, and commercial contracting functions at Albertsons. This role will have several areas of responsibility, including developing and managing efficient contracting processes within the CCOE team, sometimes in conjunction with new legal tools and technology; support attorneys in management of and, compliance with, contracting-related policies; assisting in intellectual property application preparation; and negotiation of some agreement types. The position may occasionally be responsible for performing administrative duties of a complex and confidential nature for the VP or attorneys.

The position will be based in Boise, Idaho, or one of our main regional offices (Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, Pleasanton CA, Dallas TX, Chicago, IL, or Fullerton, CA, Phoenix, AZ).

Main responsibilities

  • Participate within the CCOE to create and maintain superior contracts and contracting processes.
  • Support VP in guiding internal stakeholders on contracting policies.
  • Support the Intellectual Property function by performing pre-application trademark activities, including clearances.
  • Negotiate certain varieties of contracts under supervision of Counsel.
  • Coordinate efforts with internal clients as well as other internal and external parties.
  • Draft legal documents and correspondence under the supervision of the Counsel.
  • Collaborate with legal and business teams across multiple time zones.
  • Periodically assist with diverse high demand legal projects outside normal area of focus.

The salary range is $75,400 to $97,900 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation Pay (accrued based on hours worked) or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).

What we are searching for

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program
  • At least seven years of prior work experience.
  • Possessing strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and create and maintain order from competing demands.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to gather/sift important information, ability to create schedules and organize documents.
  • Technological competency, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Proficiency in conducting legal research.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • Ability to recognize and anticipate procedural or legal issues and proactively implement solutions.
  • Strong sense of professionalism, responsibility, and reliability
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use discretion and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Possess a focused attention to detail.
  • Possess an ability to work independently on repetitive tasks.
  • Possessing good people skills/having the ability to get along with all levels – subordinates, peers and superiors – good client communication skills – manages reputation of self and department.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of USPTO procedures
  • Conducting trademark clearance searches
  • Knowledge of computerized docketing systems
