Experian is looking for a team-oriented attorney with 5+ years of relevant experience for a dynamic in-house legal counsel position. The position will provide legal support for Experian’s North American marketing services businesses with principal offices in New York City and Schaumburg, Illinois, however candidate potentially will have the ability to work remotely or in a hybrid role on Eastern or Central time.

This position will report to a senior leader of Experian’s North America legal team, who reports to the North America General Counsel and co-leads legal support for the marketing services businesses.   S/he will provide support for general legal matters of the day-to-day operations of those businesses, with a specific focus on the analysis, application, and impact of existing and prospective US federal and state privacy laws and regulations. This will include analyzing and advising the business as to the requirements and prospective impacts of state laws and regulations, make recommendations to data privacy and compliance teams, and monitor and advise business as to regulator enforcement priorities. This person will also lead and support in the negotiation and drafting of strategic agreements, drafting standard commercial forms for Contracts team use, conducting product regulatory reviews and risk assessment, and other initiatives. Specific experience in a relevant regulatory practice, particularly with respect to privacy and digital marketing, will be a strong consideration. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to learn and adapt to the requirements of the role as the regulatory landscape in the US evolves.

• Advise primary and other Experian businesses on requirements and application of US privacy laws, regulations and enforcement trends
• Lead privacy advisement in day-to-day and strategic commercial agreements for applicable privacy laws, industry organization codes, best practices, risk assessment, and diligence
• Provide legal advice where necessary for the negotiation of data processing, data transfer, and other data protection agreements
• Act as supporting privacy attorney to product groups and business development team to advise on product development initiatives, or new partnerships
• Provide legal support to compliance teams for data processing risk assessments and other risk mitigation activities
• Manage and contribute to the preparation of records of processing, data mapping, and similar legal compliance exercises
• Drive privacy-by-design frameworks and guide implementation of privacy risk mitigations through compliance and other operational teams
• Have a thorough understanding of industry and competitor privacy profiles, policy positions, and privacy initiatives and identify opportunities

• 5+ years of experience working at a law firm and/or in-house legal department within relevant industries, preferably at a publisher, ad-tech, or marketing company focusing on privacy law and applicable impact
• Experience in handling matters involving issues relating to digital advertising, data security and consumer privacy; tech-savvy with a practical and advanced understanding of the digital landscape and the compliance challenges related to data collection and processing
• Understanding of evolving US data privacy laws (e.g. CPRA, VDCPA etc.) and issues, as well as functional understanding of other major privacy frameworks and evolving legislation worldwide
• Ability to understand complex business issues, develop practical, problem-solving strategies and effectively communicate in a positive manner. 

• Ability to work independently, and as a collaborative and active member of a congenial legal team and with non-legal professionals. 

• Excellent analytical capabilities and good judgment in sophisticated and fast-paced business and technology environment
• Ability to establish effective cross-group and global relationships
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
• Self-starter and ability to take proactive ownership of required counsel to support business needs; ability to take ownership of projects and tasks and see them through to completion
• J.D. from a nationally recognized law school
• Admitted to practice in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar, in the location of practice
• Ability to work Eastern or Central Time hours on a regular basis

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay range for this position is listed above.  Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors such as job-related skills, experience and education.  This position is also eligible for a variable pay opportunity and a comprehensive benefits package which includes health, life and disability insurance, generous paid time off including paid parental and family care leave, an employee stock purchase plan and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
