What to Expect

Tesla is looking for a Senior Paralegal, Intellectual Property, based in one of our CA or TX offices to play a key role on the IP team. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property, you will support interactions with the internal business and engineering clientele in compiling and executing strategic goals related to pursuit of innovative concepts and ideas on a worldwide basis for the broad range of our products and services.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities

Patents

Manage all data related to the worldwide patent portfolio, including filing dates, application numbers, docket IDs, related documents (written descriptions, drawings, PPTs, etc.), and inventor information
Manage docket reports from docketing system and outside counsel to ensure integrity of data for making business decisions on patent matters
Manage annuity payments for matters throughout the world
Coordinate inventor meetings with applicable external patent counsel for patent application drafting or office action responses
Manage docket of invention disclosures through patent prioritization process with technical team leads
Manage docketing system, including creating automated messages and reports with relevant information for the internal technical teams
Support patent litigation needs such as collecting evidence in collaboration with the patent attorney or litigation team
Coordinate incentives (nominal) for inventors for various milestones

Trademarks & Copyrights

Manage worldwide trademark renewal docket data, including renewal and office action deadlines
Interface with business teams to maintain catalog of specimens of use of various marks in various fields of use throughout the world
Prepare trademark and copyright registration applications for filing with the USPTO
Draft cease and desist letters related to trademark infringement and related issues
Monitor general intake for potential trademark or copyright infringement issues
Maintain and manage dispute log for trademark disputes
Manage annuity payments for matters throughout the world
Partner with business teams related to monitoring inappropriate use throughout the world, including, notably, on marketplace platforms
Collaborate with business team on template agreements and policies regarding authorized use of the Tesla marks and brand
Support agreement drafting for licensed content

Policies and Procedures

Create and manage playbooks for key IP-related initiatives
Assist in establishing procedures for invention prioritization and curation; collaborate with executive assistants to establish a communication flow to enable efficient IP processes and quality legal support
Support IP initiatives related to IP protection procedures, such as procedures related to protection of trade secrets
Serve as on site notary for inventor documents and powers of attorney for IP filings
Manage legal budget and invoicing procedures through Legal Tracker
Research and recommend cost savings opportunities for the management of the IP portfolio
Additional responsibilities as opportunities become available

What You’ll Bring

Requirements

10+ years of paralegal experience, including specific work with patent data and docketing
Preferred prior in-house experience
Preferred active notary public

Expected Compensation

$28.00 - $90.00/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
