We’re looking for an Associate General Counsel, Antitrust & Litigation. In this role, you’ll work on a wide variety of interesting, exciting and high-profile legal matters at IDEXX, focused on protecting the company and its reputation and managing risk world-wide. 

The Responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to support the operation, growth and development of the company, primarily supporting our legal needs with respect to antitrust compliance, counseling and advising, along with managing commercial litigation and certain regulatory matters, and internal compliance investigations.

Reporting to the Chief Antitrust & Litigation Counsel, you will work directly with business stakeholders and coordinate closely with legal colleagues, guiding on risks, world-wide, associated with antitrust laws and commercial litigation. You will also play an integral role in further developing and enhancing our antitrust compliance program, and in training legal colleagues and business stakeholders primarily in these areas. You will also manage litigation matters from pre-litigation through resolution, actively oversee outside counsel and budgeting, and conduct internal investigations as needed, collaborating with colleagues in the Compliance Department on matters relating to our Code of Ethics and other important issues.

The Qualifications

Education/Bar Membership

  • J.D. or equivalent, with top academic credentials
  • Bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Experience

  • At least eight years of experience in private practice, in-house and/or with a governmental agency (combination preferred), ideally with some government experience and some multinational context, in substantive areas of antitrust/competition law, commercial litigation and internal investigations
  • Experience dealing with government agencies including antitrust/competition authorities and with a highly-matrixed, multinational, public company environment highly valued

  • Ability to build credibility quickly and provide extensive legal expertise to challenging and complex business situations
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex issues at the same time over various business groups and outside parties
  • Exceptional business judgment and creativity with a track record of collaborating and thriving in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to simultaneously take action that tackles immediate problems while building programs and processes that problem-solve at a programmatic level
  • Ability to distill policies and guidance to their essential, digestible points and develop tools and training on point for specific stakeholders
  • Ability to identify the right questions, find the answers, account for unknowns, risk-assess and drive and deliver effective and efficient risk assessments
  • Ability to balance risks and apply risk-based judgments to aid with high-risk decision-making
  • Strategic litigation and sensitive internal investigation skills, including technical skills such as conducting interviews, email and document review, reviewing and editing legal briefs and attending legal proceedings
  • Ability to manage outside counsel to drive successful outcomes while controlling costs  
  • Superior analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to grapple successfully with complexity and to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance for business stakeholders and legal colleagues
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and to build collaborative connections and relationships with clients and colleagues across a global organization
  • Comfort in use of collaboration tools including Teams, Box and legal operations tools including workflow and e-billing/matter management platforms
