The incumbent will be responsible for counseling the company on legal risk and representing its interests in all types of litigation, administrative actions, investigations and loan workouts, as well as responding to subpoenas and government requests for information. The Litigation Department is committed to providing quality, proactive and timely advice and representation responsive to client needs on a variety of matters affecting Freddie Mac.
The incumbent will work closely with the Multifamily Real Estate Department, which supports Freddie Mac’s important mission through a broad range of legal work, including loan production and underwriting, structured transactions, loan securitization, and asset management, operations and resolution matters.
In your role as an attorney in the Litigation Department, you will:
Represent Freddie Mac in federal and state courts, administrative actions, and similar proceedings
Actively manage outside counsel and drive case strategy
Provide sophisticated advice to internal clients regarding legal and litigation risks arising from the company’s business
Conduct legal research as needed
Negotiate asset resolution arrangements (workouts) and prepare associated documentation
Work jointly with the Litigation and Multifamily Real Estate teams on distressed asset and suspicious activity matters
Coordinate with regulatory and government affairs team to respond to regulatory and congressional inquiries
Collaborate with peers to ensure consistency of legal advice and negotiating positions
Create and maintain effective relationships with business clients, with lenders who service those mortgages, and with lawyers for those lenders
Draft well-structured, complete and concise correspondence, legal analyses and documents for internal and external purposes
Work with the Litigation Support Team on various eDiscovery, document preservation and production matters
Respond to third-party subpoenas and government requests for information and documents
Understand Freddie Mac’s business, particularly its Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guide and the Multifamily Seller/Servicer Guide (including knowledge of the representations, warranties, covenants and legal remedies) and other contracts, as assigned
Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Membership in good standing in a state Bar
10+ years relevant litigation experience with a top tier law firm or in-house at a bank, financial or other institution with a sophisticated real estate and investment portfolio, including responsibility for negotiating and closing real estate servicing and/or workout transactions
Significant experience with all aspects of litigation, including arguing motions, conducting depositions, large case discovery and document productions, brief writing, pre-trial activities, and trials
Significant experience counseling senior management clients on a wide variety of litigation issues
Strong collaboration and negotiation skills
Basic familiarity with commercial bankruptcy concepts
Excellent analytical, strategic, legal research, writing and advocacy skills
Strong eDiscovery experience
Outstanding oral and written communications and analytical skills
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues
Ability to effectively manage numerous issues across multiple areas and set priorities independently
Intellectual curiosity
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple pending time-sensitive matters
Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients, and customers and effectively deliver legal advice to non-lawyers

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $228,000 - $342,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
