Zoom is looking for a Senior Product Counsel to join our innovative Product Legal team.  As Senior Product Counsel at Zoom, you will work on interesting and complex legal issues, including novel issues of first impression, as we help to build the solutions that bring people together through a frictionless and secure video-first communication platform. You will join our collaborative team of in-house lawyers as we proactively assess and mitigate legal risks and advise on products that impact Zoom and its users.  Zoom is also at the forefront of innovation with new products, features, and integrations that build on our communications platform.

What you will do:

  • Be an integral part of Zoom’s Product Legal function with primary responsibility for supporting Zoom's artificial intelligence and machine-learning platform initiatives, products, and features.  Additional areas of responsibility include supporting Zoom’s email/calendar products, automotive initiatives, strategic integrations, and Zoom cross-platform services.

  • Partner with product teams to understand product, engineering, design, and operational implications of new products and initiatives, in particular to ensure data, artificial intelligence and machine-learning compliance issues are considered.

  • Identify relevant current and future legal, regulatory and policy requirements together with industry best practices as it relates to artificial intelligence and machine-learning.

  • Understand and stay up to date on U.S. and international laws and regulations related to Zoom’s products and services.

  • Advise multiple stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing, and business development throughout the product development cycle on new products and the implementation of technological solutions.

  • Conduct legal product reviews and maintain an inventory of features, technology, data, and compliance requirements.

  • Provide pragmatic day to day and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives.

  • Regularly meet with internal teams (e.g. product) to understand strategies, roadmap, and initiatives, and advise on new features, activities, markets, etc., to ensure alignment.

  • Provide pragmatic legal and regulatory guidance on the design and modification of products, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures, and help document guidance for consumption by members of both the legal and product teams.

  • Draft clear and concise public facing disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use or other public facing documents for our customers.

  • Review, draft and negotiate all types of agreements–including inbound, outbound, vendor, infrastructure, and partnership agreements.

You have:

  • 10 or more years applicable experience; admission to a state bar.

  • In-house experience as a product counsel at a technology company with artificial intelligence/machine-learning experience strongly preferred (bonus points for SaaS experience).

  • Experience with UCaaS, communication platform technology, or chat features and with some of the legal issues we regularly face – such as privacy and data protection, content regulation, intellectual property, marketing, and consumer protection – and a willingness to learn about the rest along with entirely new areas of law.

  • Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams, build consensus among stakeholders, and maintain strong relations at all levels across the organization.

  • Drive to take ownership of projects and tasks which, in some cases, will be matters of first impression.

  • Openness to adapting their practice in response to a fluid and expanding product roadmap.

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and drive strategic projects to successful delivery.

  • Sense of humor, excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, superior work ethic, flexibility and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to quickly issue-spot and appropriately prioritize risk and outcomes.

  • This is a high-profile position within Zoom’s Legal team and you must be comfortable interacting and appropriately communicating with all levels within the organization, including C-level team members.
