Role/Responsibilities

 

The General Counsel for Moody’s Analytics (MA) will serve as the primary legal advisor to the President, Moody’s Analytics and the MA senior leadership team. This position will report to the General Counsel, Moody’s Corporation. The role will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters for MA with an emphasis on commercial and strategic transactions, and guiding the organization’s legal strategy as it navigates rapid growth, the emergence of new technologies, and an evolving legal and regulatory landscape. This includes providing strategic counsel on legal, business, and operational matters. The ideal candidate would have significant experience in leading teams negotiating a wide range of revenue generating contracts (software and data license and subscription agreements, SaaS subscriptions, and professional services), as well as expertise in Intellectual Property and M&A execution and deal management. The role will manage a seasoned team of approximately 40 legal professionals around the world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on a wide range of issues that arise in Moody’s Analytics operations. Advise the business unit’s leadership on potential legal implications of strategic decisions and operational practices.
  • Strong, proven ability in complex, global commercial contracts and IP law.
  • Knows how to lead a global and remote team to drive high performance, innovation and collaboration with a strategic focus on DEI.
  • Negotiate key strategic deals in collaboration with the MA senior leadership, business line leaders, and the MA global sales team.
  • Employing a customer-centric focus, drive continuous improvements to MA’s global contracting processes, while effectively balancing legal and commercial risks
  • Develop a strong rapport to collaborate with MA leadership team and key stakeholders across the enterprise.
  • Using excellent judgement, must have success in analyzing complex legal issues, finding creative solutions, and effectively negotiating deals.
  • Partner with Moody’s Compliance organization and central Moody’s legal functions to ensure MA’s compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Develop strong relationships across the Moody’s global legal team.
  • Must have a passion for innovation and the latest technological advancements in partnership with the MA leadership team to scale the organization.
  • Support Moody’s General Counsel on corporate governance activities, including preparing materials for board meetings and ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements.
  • Partner with Moody’s Compliance and Government and Regulatory Affairs teams to keep abreast of, and implement changes to comply with or adapt to, legislative and regulatory developments that may affect MA’s business globally.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 15 years of legal experience, preferably with experience in a SaaS, Software/Data, FinTech or Business Intelligence/Analytics field
  • Strong knowledge of the legal and regulatory landscape relevant to the business unit’s operations.
  • Executive level communication, decision making and strong analytical skills to influence the business on strategic direction.
  • High level of professional ethics and integrity.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $ 270,000 to $391,500, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for a completion bonus. Moody’s also offers insurance and a discounted employee stock purchase plan for limited duration employees.
