Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer – the Chief Legal Officer will be a trusted partner and key advisor to senior company leadership on all legal matters.

Under two generations of NaphCare’s leadership, NaphCare’s services have expanded to meet the evolving needs of clients and changes in the industry. NaphCare has a strong presence throughout the United States, with its principal office located in Birmingham, Alabama.
Position Overview: The Chief Legal Officer will have primary responsibility for handling and overseeing all legal matters for the Company. Reporting to the CEO, this position will provide pragmatic and high-quality legal counsel that supports the Company’s business interests, advances the Company’s goals, and minimizes legal risk. This position will play an important strategic role within the business as a member of a close-knit, warm, and high-energy senior leadership team. The successful candidate will be highly collaborative with excellent communication skills and the ability to provide sound legal advice on a wide range of critical business and legal issues. As one of the company’s top attorneys, the Chief Legal Officer will work with and supervise other members of the Legal Department on a daily basis.
Location: Birmingham, Alabama.
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
A Day in the Life:
- Advise the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership on all legal issues relative to business, litigation, and other regulatory topics.
- Provide advice and counsel on matters related to business strategy, including short-term and long-term strategic plans, and annual operating plans.
- Set an ethical tone for conducting business and ensure that the company adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations that govern it.
- Supervise and assist other members of the Legal Department and outside counsel with the disposition of potential and pending claims and/or pending litigation.
- Select and manage outside counsels’ representation of the company’s interests.
- Provide support to the business units in the achievement of goals by providing legal, compliance, and other perspectives on organizational issues and emerging trends.
- Review and interpret statutes, legislation, insurance, contractual, and/or other provisions and regulations impacting the company’s business.
- Provide leadership to the Legal Department staff regarding legal, employment, legislative, regulatory, and organizational issues, and oversee their professional development.
- Identify and develop the talent within the Legal Department and across the company as a whole, while promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described and assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Additional Job Description Preferred Skills and Experiences:
- Admitted to practice before a state bar and the ability to secure registration as Authorized House Counsel or admission through reciprocity with the Alabama State Bar
- Preference for 10+ years of experience as an attorney managing complex business issues within the healthcare industry, including 5+ years of experience as in-house counsel.
- Prior litigation experience specific to medical malpractice and 42 U.S. Code
- 1983 claims regarding healthcare services provided in the jail or prison setting.
- Experience defining critical objectives with the capacity to understand, develop, and lead strategic and operational plans.
- Significant experience with corporate law, litigation, employment matters and contracts, as well as in-depth knowledge of compliance, regulatory and legislative issues.
- The position requires an individual with strong leadership ability, proven skills in diplomacy, and the ability to pursue goals with tenacity.
- Candidates should possess the executive presence and expertise necessary to be viewed with confidence by staff and senior leadership.
