Bell Partners is seeking a full-time Vice President Legal. This position can be is based in any of Bell Partners’ Corporate locations in North Carolina (Greensboro, Raleigh or Charlotte). The Vice President Legal is an individual contributor role, with direct reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel. As Vice President Legal, you will support the Senior Vice President and General Counsel in handling the company’s legal matters. In particular, you will support all aspects of Bell Partners’ property management operations at communities located across the United States, including resident concerns, corporate and community contracts, employee (HR) issues, and litigation. You also will administer the company’s contract management system. In addition, you will participate in the risk assessment process and development and execution of risk mitigation strategies and the compliance plan.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President and General Counsel to provide legal support and guidance to the company
  • Provide legal advice and guidance on site level property management / landlord-tenant issues
  • Assist with management and oversight of outside counsel on various legal matters, including litigation
  • Review and support key operations risk initiatives (i.e., privacy policy, rent control, utilities, etc.)
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of contracts, including vendor agreements and customer contracts, to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and Bell Partners’ policies and procedures
  • Manage contract administration system and oversight of contract abstracts
  • Communicate contract policy and practice to company associates
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to various departments within the corporation, including human resources and operations
  • Draft legal memoranda, opinions, and other documents as needed
  • Collaborate with other members of the legal and risk management department to meet the legal needs of a leader in the multifamily housing industry

Education and Background

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
  • 7 – 10+ years of experience in a corporate or law firm setting
  • Multifamily experience highly desired
  • Contract, conflict resolution/litigation, and HR support experience preferred
