Privacy and Transactions Counsel

WHO are we looking for?

CAPTRUST is seeking a full-time, Transactional Counsel to lead the firm’s data privacy compliance efforts and assist in various additional transactional matters to join our internal legal team. The successful candidate will divide their focus between (i) developing and implementing a comprehensive enterprise privacy strategy and (ii) assisting in the firm’s acquisition strategy.

As counsel, you will provide practical legal advice across business lines while mitigating legal and privacy risks for the company. The role will include responsibility for coordinating matters with external counsel and internal stakeholders. Our ideal candidate is comfortable working with all levels of management to gain an in-depth understanding of our strategy and services. He/She/They will maintain the highest professional and ethical standards, have excellent time management, organization, and decision-making abilities, be able to work autonomously, prioritize projects and deadlines, be collaborative, and accountable while performing in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive development and implementation of comprehensive enterprise privacy strategy
• Maintain register of privacy laws and regulations applicable to the business
• Understand CAPTRUST’s use of data in order to implement privacy best practices across the organization
• Work closely with business groups across the firm in support of privacy efforts (IT, compliance, marketing, etc.)
• Develop and maintain internal and external-facing privacy and data use policies and notices that support and promote compliance with applicable privacy laws
• Inform our corporate attorneys and business partners as they negotiate a variety of agreements with our customers, partners and vendors with respect to privacy considerations
• Assist in acquisition transactions, working with internal and outside counsel on definitive agreements, drafting letters of intent, and assisting in legal diligence efforts

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications/Skills:

• Juris Doctorate from accredited law school
• Licensed to practice and in good standing in applicable jurisdiction
• 6+ years of law firm or in house experience or functioning at the senior associate level

Desired Qualifications/Skills

• Knowledge of investment advisory industry
• Familiarity with data privacy laws and best practices
