**Job Description

** The Head Data Privacy Legal Americas provides strategic and expert legal advice on data privacy, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity (including on data breach incidents), and related laws and regulations to the Data Privacy Function and the Business. He/she leads the Data Privacy Legal team in the US, Latin America and Canada (LACAN). The Global Data Privacy team is actively seeking an experienced leader for this critical space.

What you will be doing:

  • Establish and lead a team of dedicated data privacy legal experts in the US and LACAN and ensure close working relationship with the Data Privacy Function, General Legal as well as alignment within the global Data Privacy Legal team.
  • Monitoring local laws and regulatory guidance in the US and LACAN and provide legal advice to the Data Privacy Function on how to integrate the US and LACAN data privacy legal requirements, and related le-gal requirements, into the Novartis Data Privacy Program (“data privacy by design”).
  • Provide legal advice to the Data Privacy Function (and, as needed and in coordination with the Data Privacy Function, the Business) in relevant global / regional / local projects. Manage outside counsel on privacy legal issues as needed.
  • Train the Data Privacy Function, General Legal and other relevant stakeholders on local laws and regulatory guidance in the US and LACAN.
  • Provide legal advice to the Global Head Data Privacy, to IT Security, and other relevant stakeholders on cybersecurity matters in the US and LACAN, including the qualification and handling of data breach incidents.
  • In coordination with the Data Privacy Function, interact with regulators in the US and LACAN, work with Novartis Public Affairs to influence policy/legislation, including within trade associations, and update the Global Head Data Privacy Legal and senior management on data privacy, artificial intelligence and cyber-security, and related legal developments in the US and LACAN.
  • Establish and leverage strong contacts with data privacy legal professionals at other companies.

_ **Minimum Requirements

** What you will bring to the role:

Education: Legal degree and admission to the US bar required.

Languages: English required, additional languages desirable (e.g. Spanish or Portuguese)

Ideal experience:

Lawyer with proven track record of successfully managing complex legal issues in multi-disciplinary and international setting (10+ years).

Lawyer with proven track record of successfully managing a team of lawyers (8+ years).

10+ years of experience in a multinational company, ideally in the healthcare sector.

Deep expertise in data privacy, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity legal matters or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire and master expertise in new legal areas.

Experienced in “legal crisis management”.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: $222,400.00 and $333,600.00 USD per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
