The Health, Education, and Welfare section (HEW) of the Office of the Attorney General is looking for attorneys seeking to develop and hone their litigation skills on behalf of the State of California. HEW attorneys represent over 30 state agencies by defending against challenges to administrative hearing decisions; the practices and policies of state mental hospitals and developmental centers; statewide educational programs; the State’s health and welfare programs, including Medi-Cal; and public health issues such as the defense of nursing home citations.

Duties include:
All applicants must reside in California and be members in good standing of the California State Bar. This is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work remotely or in the office, with 2-3 required in-person days each month. Travel and in-person attendance may be required for trials, court appearances, witness interviews, depositions, and operationally as needed.
