Our flagship office is in Sydney, Australia, but we've made our way from down under, to hubs in Austin and San Francisco, which are now home to our US operations. So whether you're in Texas or California, you have choice in where and how you work in each of those states. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
As Canva continues to scale, the Commercial Legal team needs additional resources to support the volume of contracts across Sales, Procurement, and Partnerships while maintaining efficiency and a high standard of work.
About the Team
Canva’s Commercial Legal team is a dynamic and highly collaborative global team that supports the business on various fronts including Procurement, Sales, and Partnerships. The team is pivotal in helping Canva continue to grow at scale while mitigating risk. You’ll have the opportunity to address a variety of novel legal issues as Canva continues to innovate and make Crazy Big Goals happen. You will leverage your expertise, good judgment, and strong business sense to assess and mitigate legal risk in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do:
- You will review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements with vendors, customers, and partners.
- You'll respond promptly to legal requests from the Procurement team and other members of the business.
- You will keep current on relevant industry standards, laws, and regulations; including data privacy laws.
- You'll improve and maintain playbooks and processes for the Legal team and business stakeholders.
- You will provide general legal guidance to the business.
Who You Are:
- You come with a strong technical background and significant hands-on experience in contracting at a fast-paced technology company.
- You are excited to roll up your sleeves, learn the business and proactively identify and analyze opportunities and risks.
- You have excellent communication skills and can make complex communications simple.
- You're comfortable participating in cross-functional and internationally distributed teams.
- You are a pragmatic, business minded lawyer.
- You are risk aware, not risk averse.
- You're a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and a collegial attitude.
- You are comfortable getting on the phone with customers.
- You have the ability prioritize and effectively set and balance expectations.
Minimum Requirements:
- Admission to one bar.
- 2-5 years of in-house experience at a SaaS company
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of Canva and/or SaaS offerings.
- Experience using contracting tools (e.g. Ironclad and Docusign)
