  • CITIZENSHIP: This position is open to US Citizens.

  • TRIAL PERIOD: This appointment may require completion of a two-year trial period.
  • SECURITY CLEARANCE: Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment security investigation. Favorable results on a Background Investigation may be a condition of employment or selection to another position.
  • DRUG TESTING: This position may be subjected to drug testing requirements.
  • PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS): Moving/Relocation expenses are not authorized.
  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
  • This position is in the collective bargaining unit.
  • Starting on the Entrance on Duty (EOD) date, law clerks have 14 months to pass the bar. Failure to do so can result in termination.
  • This position has promotion potential to the SK-11.
  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • You must possess a J.D. or LL.B Degree by the intended Entrance on Duty (EOD) date.
  • This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

The anticipated Entrance on Duty (EOD) date is September/October 2024, or sooner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: All applicants must possess at least one of the following:

  • Be a current law student who will graduate prior to September 2024; OR
  • Be a current joint-degree law student who will complete all academic requirements for both degrees and graduate from both programs prior to September 2024.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional Information

The Chair's Attorney Honors Program appointments for Law Clerks are for 14-months pending bar association admission. Upon admission to a state bar association, Law Clerks can be converted to Attorneys for the remainder of the program and for future employment. The Chair's Attorney Honors Program is a two-year long developmental program.

Promotion Potential: Upon conversion to an Attorney position, this position has promotion potential to the SK-14 grade level.
