Databricks seeks a Director and Associate General Counsel; you will join Databricks' growing commercial legal team supporting the business activities of Databricks, working on diverse matters including reviewing and negotiating customer and business channel agreements and providing legal support for revenue-generating activities of Databricks. Reporting to our VP Legal, Americas, your responsibilities will include supporting our Americas sales team, managing junior legal team members, overseeing commercial contracts, and supporting and resolving issues relating to security, data, and privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Establish yourself as a leader of the Americas commercial legal team
  • Manage junior legal team members, mentoring, and being a point of escalation
  • Proven ability to effectively handle high volume of deals with a focus on accelerating and streamlining the negotiation cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and proactively work with Sales to provide training and objection handling strategies to effectively close deals faster
  • Negotiate complex, non-standard agreements
  • Be a Legal business partner to Sales leadership providing general legal advice on forecasting, deal process, and contract management
  • Understand product, data security, and privacy process issues to direct Sales leadership during negotiations
  • Be a subject matter expert in a related function (e.g., privacy, public sector, or procurement)
  • Help with standardization of documentation across multiple jurisdictions
  • Quickly assimilate Databricks' internal structures, product offerings, technology, security/data protection systems, policies, and standard commercial contracts to enable effective support across all lines of business

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant tech sector legal experience focused on commercial transactions including complex cloud contracts, with a minimum of 10 years experience including significant experience in-house (preferably at a high-growth technology company)
  • Strong understanding of cloud services, software technology and professional services contracts
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property, data privacy, and contract law
  • Substantial experience drafting and negotiating complex transactions involving security, privacy and IP issues
  • Solid experience of business process gained in-house relating to commercial, contract, intellectual property and data privacy law
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, and client expectations in the face of competing demands
  • Current state bar membership
  • Strong leadership ability with proven success leading, mentoring, and guiding junior legal team members
  • Experience supporting US public sector is highly encouraged but not required
  • Have state bar membership in either California or Washington

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Zone 2 Pay Range

$187,300—$331,400 USD
