** **The Opportunity
** The position will provide legal support to TC Energy’s U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines business related to land, environmental and safety matters in connection with the Company’s existing pipeline systems and the development of new pipeline infrastructure. The position will report to the Director of Environment, Pipeline Safety, Land & Projects in the U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines Law department.
**What You'll Do
**
- Provide legal support in connection with land matters related to the operation of the Company’s pipeline systems, including right-of-way acquisition, easements, landowner issues and the management of related claims and litigation
- Provide legal support in connection with environmental, pipeline safety, worker safety and other regulatory matters, including representing the Company before federal and state regulatory agencies and the preparation and drafting of applications, pleadings and other filings
- Provide legal support and training related to environmental regulatory compliance, including air, water, hazardous waste and hydrocarbon remediation
- Provide legal support and guidance on the siting and permitting of new pipelines
- Provide general operational support to the natural gas pipeline business, including participation as a member of the emergency response program
- Participate in industry trade groups and associations on legislative and regulatory issues that impact the Company related to areas of support
- Supervise external legal counsel within approved budget limits
- Monitor and advise with respect to regulatory and industry developments related to areas of support.
**Minimum Qualifications
**
- Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the U.S.
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum six years of relevant legal experience.
**Preferred Qualifications
**
- General understanding of the natural gas pipeline business
- Experience with right-of-way acquisition, landowner issues, easements and other land-related matters
- Experience with federal and state permitting of pipelines and other energy infrastructure
- Experience with environmental, pipeline safety and other regulatory matters related to natural gas pipeline infrastructure, including proceedings before the PHMSA and other federal and state regulatory agencies and tribunals
- Ability to analyze complex matters and propose creative and practical solutions
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills (oral and written)
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to support multiple client groups
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work with senior commercial leaders
- Ability to coordinate issues with other legal and business functions
- Limited travel required.
