What you’ll do

We’re looking for an accomplished senior leader who is deeply experienced in risk management and technology to further develop a Stripe-wide approach to managing risk globally and ensure that we have a strong risk culture. In this role, you will partner with senior leaders right across Stripe and help our business to understand, measure, and navigate risks to protect Stripe, our users, and our ecosystem. We appreciate that growing the GDP of the internet requires leaps into the unknown or untested and being risk-forward - but also taking measured and deliberate risks that are aligned with our business objectives and risk appetite. You will help to strategically oversee risks, and risk-mitigating controls, to enable our products to develop and scale in a risk-aware manner and manage emerging threats and disruptions to our business. You will draw on your deep expertise to lead an Enterprise Risk Management pillar as part of an established and developing second line at Stripe.



  • Lead Enterprise Risk Management globally at Stripe, an important pillar of our second line of defense, reporting to the Global Head of Compliance
  • Build and help execute a vision and data-driven strategy for the management and treatment of risk that is appropriate to Stripe and our business
  • Develop a deep understanding of the most important risks to Stripe and an astute perception of emerging risks
  • Ensure that Stripe's Enterprise Risk Management programs remain fit for purpose to meet regulatory and partner obligations
  • Manage a strong global team of risk management professionals
  • Advise senior leadership and the board on the development of risk appetite across our complex business
  • Actively review and challenge how we manage and monitor risk, to ensure that Stripe’s risk posture is aligned with our business objectives and risk appetite 
  • Partner very effectively with the business in a strategic oversight and advisory role to help the business to develop leading risk metrics to appropriately manage emerging risks
  • Report on the effectiveness of how we are managing our risks to senior management and board, including data, metrics, trend analyses, and recommendations
  • Act as a leadership advocate for a good risk culture

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • 15+ years of leadership experience in risk management with a preference for experience in the technology industry
  • Strong subject matter expertise across the risks that are most relevant to Stripe’s business
  • A demonstrated track record of partnering very effectively with business leaders
  • An established stakeholder network, with experience working with auditors, partners and regulators 
  • Proven experience in building and developing risk management programs for scale
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, including navigating leadership and interpersonal working relationships 
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to create a culture of rigor and risk in a high-growth and fast-paced organization


Hybrid work at Stripe

Our Chicago, Dublin, and Singapore teams spend at least 50% of their time in their local offices. We believe that more in-person interactions will contribute to better results for our employees and Stripe. Increased office time allows for improved collaboration, efficiency, and informal learning opportunities, fostering a stronger community and building our culture. We will apply the insights gained from these initial three locations to continue refining our hybrid approach.


Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $247,000 - $348,700. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
