ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage general liability, personal injury, auto, car/truck accident, property claims, and construction defect litigation caseload.
  • Keeps Assistant General Counsel and other Department personnel informed of the status of the litigation program on a regular basis.
  • Independently manage a litigation caseload, working cases from beginning to end.
  • Strategize with outside counsel and Risk Management departments to evaluate exposure and liability of complex claims and lawsuits, including, but not limited to, general liability, automobile, employment, asbestos, and construction defect.
  • Advise on complex legal matters by utilizing legal expertise and strategic thinking to assess risk and recommend effective and appropriate solutions.
  • Participate in and attend mediations and trials, as needed.
  • Fulfill other company-related legal functions, as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned, including, but not limited to compliance-related tasks.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Juris Doctorate (J. D.) from an accredited law school, excellent academic record, and active member in good standing in at least one State bar.
  • Minimum (5) years of relevant legal experience in general liability, auto, property and personal injury. Construction defect experience a plus.
  • Litigation and mediation experience is a must.
  • Ideal candidates will have a combination of law firm and in-house experience.

  • Ability to write using original or innovative techniques or style. 
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management or industry groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic skills with Word Processing and Internet software.
