Position: Associate Legal Counsel, Dispute Resolution

Location: Nashville, TN

Overview: We are looking for an experienced attorney to advise and manage dispute and litigation risks on behalf of the company and our solar energy projects. The candidate must be very proactive, demonstrate strong communication and legal writing skills, and be willing to assist the Legal Counsel, EPC and Procurement and General Counsel in meeting the complex legal needs of the company and its various divisions. The candidate must also have strong judgment and time-management skills and be willing to work independently.

Main Responsibilities: As Associate Legal Counsel, Dispute Resolution, the candidate will advise and manage commercial dispute risks affecting the Company, including (i) briefing and advising senior management on matters involving significant legal risks and potential future litigation; (ii) advising on and managing pre-litigation disputes, including change order requests and warranty claims; (iii) managing litigation, dispute resolution (mediation/arbitration) or similar administrative proceedings; (iv) developing and implementing litigation strategies with appropriate team members; (v) developing internal processes to reduce litigation exposure and create best practices; (vi) conducting legal and regulatory compliance training programs; (vii) managing external litigation counsel and related fees; and (viii) collaborating with other internal legal support, as well as a variety of cross-functional teams, to provide the Company with legal advice regarding litigation and compliance issues. The candidate should also have the ability and willingness to provide general legal services outside of dispute resolution and litigation matters as required. In fulling these responsibilities, the candidate must be able to: 

  • Communicate effectively and responsibly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prioritize work to meet project goals including deadlines, cost targets, and project schedules.
  • Being responsible for reviewing and maintaining project records.
  • Work as a team player with effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Represent the organization professionally with vendors, utilities, local officials, financing partners and other project stakeholders.

Reporting: The candidate shall report to the Legal Counsel, EPC and Procurement.

Qualifications:

Education: J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited US law school; active bar admission in good standing in at least one state with ability to obtain bar admission in Tennessee.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of significant, relevant experience as a lawyer in the advocacy or litigation department at a top-tier law firm or sophisticated corporate legal department, with preference given to construction litigation experience
  • Strong academic background from reputable law school
  • Experience acting as first or second chair at trial
  • Work with the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • A team player with the ability to proactively identify problems, drive projects, make complex cost/benefit assessments, and identify pragmatic/creative legal and business solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to quickly earn the confidence of your colleagues and effectively communicate with people at all levels of the organization
  • Accurate and strong attention to detail and a high level of organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and people and to work well and professionally with others
  • Embraces and enjoys a fast-paced corporate environment with the opportunity to broaden areas of expertise over tim
