GEICO is seeking a highly motivated Counsel to join the Office of General Counsel.  As a generalist, this attorney will work as an Individual Contributor, providing legal guidance and counsel on various matters impacting the GEICO companies.  Although this attorney will be expected to operate as a generalist, the job will require expertise in one or more of the legal areas for which the Office of the General Counsel is responsible, including:

  • Property and casualty insurance underwriting
  • Corporate litigation management
  • e-commerce
  • Contracts
  • Intellectual property
  • Consumer-protection laws
  • Marketing and advertising law

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Review proposed changes to business processes and advise on legal risks Assist business units in managing liability risk

  • Manage litigation and coordinate with business units on any related risk mitigation

  • Negotiate contracts and disputes

  • Collaborate with business units on their business strategies and related risks

  • Review advertising and other public-facing content

  • Assist in legal aspects of developing new products and changing existing products

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

  • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdiction

  • At least 2 years of experience practicing law

  • Must be able to travel as required, to attend mediations, hearings, depositions, and meetings.

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

  • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.

  • Excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills.

  • Handle a substantial volume of work and to work under pressure with multiple/shifting deadlines.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize workload, work well individually and as a team member, advise and respond to business clients in a creative, effective, understanding, and communicate effectively

  • Experience related to property & casualty insurance sales, service, and underwriting is preferred

 

Location – Hybrid: This position is a hybrid role and will require 2-3 days working in office.
