This is a hybrid role; Hybrid colleagues work a mix of in-office and virtual days, coming into the office 2-3 days per week on average. Leaders and colleagues will plan common days for in-person connection, collaboration, and events.

 

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Paralegal-Supervisor is responsible for conducting legal reviews of escalated legal orders, colleague supervision and support, colleague development to ensure quality work, communication with subpoena issuers and general administrative support. Under the supervision of Manager & Counsel, she/he will:

  • Conduct legal reviews of escalated legal requests as required.
  • Research and analyze statutes and case law as required for legal request escalations.
  • Work under the supervision of counsel, supporting complex subpoena productions.
  • Prepare responses to non-routine or escalated legal requests as required.
  • Ensure that fulfillment of third-party legal orders meets the requirements of federal and state privacy laws.
  • Locate non-routine documents that are responsive to legal requests.
  • Coordinate delivery of documents to Amex representatives required to appear in court and authenticate business records.
  • Support Manager & Counsel as needed.
  • Analyze and escalate legal requests to the Manager & Counsel when required.
  • Actively lead a team of legal operation specialists that process third-party legal orders.
  • Actively manage legal operation specialists’ caseload and output.
  • Provide guidance on doubts in the decisioning or fulfillment of legal requests.
  • Provide coaching and feedback for quality, performance improvement and development.
  • Ensure production of documents is made by the agreed upon date for production with the issuer or extensions are obtained.
  • Review the quality of work to ensure the accuracy and quality meets the applicable procedures and standards.
  • Communicate and directly respond to issuers of legal requests by phone or email regarding the status of escalated legal orders.
  • Send out fulfillment packages via secure email to issuers when required.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information of legal requests or other information provided by issuers.
  • Contribute to the development or update of business specific procedures to improve legal order processing.
  • Support and collaborate with leadership on projects aimed at leveraging data analytics and process improvements to streamline and improve legal order processing.
  • Adhere to Amex risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls and identify and promptly escalate legal or operational issues to management.
  • Provide feedback to leadership concerning escalations, team output or any trends relating to legal order processing.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree.
  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm environment handling a broad range of litigation matters and working with complex and large volume discovery projects.
  • Experience leading a team or managing projects.
  • Comfortable with learning new processes and using technology tools.
  • Ability to move seamlessly between multiple priorities and projects.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Able to anticipate challenges, use independent judgment to make sound decisions and escalate complex doubts to the Manager & Counsel when required.
  • Ability to work independently and also effectively interact at all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Understanding of how to effectively navigate through legal and operational associated challenges with legal order processing.
  • Highly organized with a track record of pushing initiatives through to timely completion.
  • A strong work ethic, a can-do attitude, flexibility and genuine enthusiasm to assist and support on assigned projects and matters.

  • Location: Sunrise, Florida
  • Travel: Little to none
  • Visa Sponsorship: Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for this position

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
