The Senior Counsel, Employment Law is responsible for providing employment and labor law legal counseling and advice to AbbVie’s research-based pharmaceutical business.
This is a hybrid role based in AbbVie's Illinois Headquarters office 3 days/week.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Represent AbbVie in response to threatened claims, and before government agencies in employment discrimination and wage claims.
- Provide legal counsel to clients regarding all employment and labor law issues, including non-competes and trade secrets.
- Provide employment and labor law support on corporate transactions, restructures, policies, and other employee-related agreements.
- Support corporate compliance initiatives and HR projects.
- Provide project direction and supervision of outside counsel on domestic and international matters.
- Support HR in development of affirmative action plans and goals, and compliance audits.
- Develop and conduct employment-related training.
Position Accountability/Scope:
Position supports entirety of AbbVie and will interact heavily with senior leaders in the Legal Division, Human Resources and other areas of AbbVie. The position reports to Section Head, Employment, Labor & Immigration.
Required Qualifications:
- Law degree from an ABA accredited law school and in good standing with the state bar of the jurisdiction in which your office will be located (or ability to gain licensure in the state in which your office will be located).
- Minimum of 7+ years of practice. In-house experience strongly preferred. General knowledge about pharmaceutical industry and deep expertise in federal, state and local employment/labor law required.
- Experience representing clients in government agencies, drafting and negotiating agreements, drafting policies, and employment litigation.
