Role

The Litigation Senior Attorney has responsibility for commercial, real estate-based, and tort litigation, and other disputes.  More specifically, this Litigation Senior Attorney is responsible for providing legal counsel and risk assessment regarding all aspects of the business located across the U.S. The Litigation Senior Attorney serves as legal support for a variety of business professionals, such as senior management, in addition to managing outside counsel and developing litigation strategy for general litigation matters. The Litigation Senior Attorney will also partner with members of Safety, Operations, Project Management, Government Relations, External Affairs, and others, to support key initiatives for the overall organization. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation and disputes nationwide by engaging in tasks such as responding to attorney demand letters, negotiating resolution of claims, and making recommendations to relevant business partners on resolution.
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel on litigation matters to develop strategy for litigation and to ensure high-quality, cost-effective services.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to provide legal guidance and support for company-wide initiatives.
  • Develop and conduct training for internal business clients relating to litigation avoidance, attorney-client privilege, best practices, and substantive law matters.
  • Provide legal input on company standards, policies, and other external guidelines.
  • Respond to legal inquiries, assisting Crown personnel with regard to legal issues as needed.
  • Draft and review legal documents.
  • Assist in the interpretation of contract documents and in the resolution of disputes related to contract terms.
  • Provide support for collections matters, including assistance in structuring and improving procedures and practices for collection of receivables, and support in collections efforts.

 

Education/Certifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials
  • Attorney’s License and admission to a state bar, in good standing, or the ability to register as in-house counsel

 

Experience/Minimum Requirements

  • 6 or more years of relevant legal litigation experience

 

Expectations 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication with an ability to distill facts and provide sound, clear legal advice to business partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, judgment, and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to analyze problems and propose a course of action.
  • Background in interpreting leases and real estate interests is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable with working independently and self-managing projects.
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse background, personalities, and opinions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

Organizational Relationship

Reports to:  Associate General Counsel

Title(s) of direct reports (if applicable):  N/A, or Paralegal, Legal Assistant

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office on Monday through Thursday.  On Fridays, teammates on the hybrid schedule will have the option to work from the office or home.  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
