Our Opportunity:
The Compliance Regulatory Group (CREG): CREG manages the firm’s relationships with regulators, including the SEC, FINRA, CFTC, CME, NFA, international and state securities regulators, as well as futures exchanges. CREG responds to regulatory inquiries, manages regulatory examinations, and ensures remedial actions are addressed as part of their handling of regulatory exams and inquiries.
What you’ll do:
- This role is part of the leadership team for Compliance Regulatory and a leader across Schwab Compliance accountable for delivering a Schwab-wide view.
- Lead a team of compliance professionals who are responsible for responding to regulatory inquiries and exams across Schwab's main lines of business, including broker/dealer, investment adviser, and bank regulation ensuring appropriate remedial actions are taken to address regulatory findings and feedback.
- Lead, guide, and help to shape the company’s regulatory interactions to ensure we continue to earn the trust of our clients and other stakeholders every day.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders (regulators and industry groups) to ensure Schwab’s compliance policies, programs, and processes align with the firm’s compliance risk appetite and the external industry and regulatory environment.
- Partner with business unit management, business lines, third parties, and respective regulators “connecting-the-dots” of how Schwab maintains an informed control environment and how emerging issues or trends may impact Schwab’s strategic positioning.
- Collaborate exceptionally with peers in Compliance, Legal and other functions to ensure matters and issues are handled effectively and efficiently.
What you have
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum 15 years relevant experience in regulatory compliance with a Broker/Dealer, in-house legal department, law firm, or regulatory agency. A JD is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in transforming organizations in a highly collaborative environment to influence compliance and controls while building strong internal and external partnerships, and providing coaching and guidance to varied stakeholders.
- Deep competencies in law, securities/banking regulations, ethics, and financial services.
- Thrives on initiating, building and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group; highly collaborative; navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos.
- Proven ability to find a balance in developing programs effectively meeting potentially differing regulatory requirements and expectations while being workable for business partners.
