Job Description

Join the leader in entertainment innovation and help us design the future. At Dolby, science meets art, and high tech means more than computer code. As a member of the Dolby team, you’ll see and hear the results of your work everywhere, from movie theaters to smartphones. We continue to revolutionize how people create, deliver, and enjoy entertainment worldwide. To do that, we need the absolute best talent. We’re big enough to give you all the resources you need, and small enough so you can make a real difference and earn recognition for your work. We offer a collegial culture, challenging projects, and excellent compensation and benefits, not to mention a Flex Work approach that is truly flexible to support where, when, and how you do your best work.

The Legal Department provides core legal support to all Dolby functions, runs several IP-centric businesses, and leads government relations.

Description

The Director, Policy and Business Affairs will work at the intersection of academic theory, policy advocacy, and effective communications.  Reporting to Dolby’s Vice President & Global Head of Policy and Business Affairs, this person will:

  • Serve as a liaison to, and active participant in, the academic community in legal policy spaces relevant to Dolby – and ensure that Dolby’s perspectives are represented effectively therein.
  • Act as a bridge between academic theory and Dolby legal thought leadership by ensuring that Dolby leaders benefit from the latest thinking without getting lost in irrelevant complexity.
  • Assist in worldwide policy advocacy for Dolby, both targeted and as part of broader communications with stakeholders.
  • Help develop clear, effective communications materials for Dolby legal executives in a variety of contexts, internal and external.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is intellectually curious, with a demonstrated aptitude for wrestling with complex ideas and distilling them clearly and effectively.
  • Has experience with policy advocacy, particularly in the intellectual property space.
  • Enjoys friendly intellectual debate, and is sufficiently flexible to advocate any position effectively.
  • Has significant experience in the academic world beyond a student role.
  • Has a knack for clear communications about complex topics, both to experts and laypeople, in a variety of formats, from writing to presentations.
  • Must have demonstrated expertise as a writer, including published articles
  • Must be a Powerpoint power user with advanced visual design skills.
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset, and relishes the challenge of building this function effectively.
  • Has excellent academic credentials, with a JD preferred.

The San Francisco/Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $241,900 - $300,400K plus bonus, equity, and benefits, and can vary if outside of this location.
