**Job Title: General Counsel

Job Location: Lincoln or Omaha

** Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital is looking for a dynamic, experienced attorney to fill the role of General Counsel. This position is responsible for management and oversight of all legal affairs for Madonna and its related entities, including contracts, regulatory and compliance issues, corporate governance, litigation management, patient care and collection issues, Medicare and Medicaid appeals, business transactions, and employment matters.

**Overview Of Responsibilities

**

  • Provide legal advice and counsel to organization and business leaders on a wide variety of issues, including but not limited to, general healthcare law (Stark Law, anti-kickback statutes, patient issues, and fraud and abuse laws), facility licensure, data privacy and security, risk management, regulatory and compliance issues, business initiatives and transactions, and contract matters.
  • Provide representation in Medicare and Medicaid appeals and other litigation as assigned.
  • Manage the contracting process for Madonna and related entities, including contract review, drafting, negotiation and execution.
  • Manage and monitor all lawsuits and legal matters handled by outside counsel, which includes managing and accounting for outside legal counsel spend.
  • Provide analysis on proposed legislation on the state and federal level and may propose amendments to legislation to advance organizational strategies.

**Qualifications

**

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the Nebraska State Bar Association
  • Minimum of five years of experience as corporate counsel or in a health law related legal practice
  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal legal and regulatory issues that affect health care
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex issues to a broad audience
  • Ability to distill complex issues and devise legally sound recommendations and solutions in a direct, professional manner
  • Ability to perform legal research and analysis, prepare legal documents, and provide legal representation
  • Experience with making solid judgment calls under pressure and working well both independently and as part of a team
  • A practical and proactive legal counsel with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Background checks will be conducted
