ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Avaya is seeking an experienced certified paralegal to join our headquarters in Morristown, NJ. The Legal department is a worldwide function that supports all aspects of the business in all countries in which Avaya operates.

Performs a variety of complex law-related tasks under the direction of Company attorneys. Conducts activities related to corporate, litigation and compliance areas, such as legal research, documents management and other related duties. Works with limited guidance on projects and ususes initiative and discretion in accomplishing routine assignments with minimal supervision. Has mastered routine elements in practice area skills, professional skills and knowledge of company operations. Provides assistant to overall legal team with a variety of different tasks and assignments. 

  • Support the preparation, execution and distribution of secretary’s certificates, Know-Your-Client requests and other varied certificates and/or attestations re officers, addresses, ownership, etc.
  • Support the legal department’s preservation and tracking of NDAs and engagement letters
  • Notarize document as needed and assist in obtaining apostilles when necessary
  • Assist with tracking stock ownership and share transfers
  • Support litigation and pre-litigation matters from intake to settlement
  • Manage legal hold process and privilege letters
  • Handle external communications, both verbal and in written correspondence, from legal counsel, court officials, regulators, vendors, customers and other stakeholders
  • Prepare responses to correspondence containing routine inquiries, making referrals to appropriate staff as required and serving as focal point for follow-up actions
  • Respond to government audits and inquiries
  • Gather documents and information in response to subpoenas and document requests
  • Assist with document review and corresponding platforms  
  • Assist with the investigation of internal complaints
  • Conduct legal research
  • Manage matter creation, monitoring status, and report creation using Legal Tracker 
  • Assist with budget process, including purchase order creation and management 
  • Participate and work in collaboration with a wide variety of staff members on special assignments and projects
  • Assist with travel and expenses for Legal Leadership Team
  • Provide scheduling assistance to Legal Leadership Team, as needed
  • Assist with headquarters-wide office activities
  • Other duties, as assigned

ABOUT YOU

  • Able to navigate various areas in the legal department, including but not limited to corporate, litigation and compliance as well as overall organizational administration.
  • Agility and flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment is crucial.  
  • 3 to 6 years of experience as an in-house or law firm litigation paralegal
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong administrative skills
  • Bachelor's or Associate’s degree desired
  • Ability to manage complex and varied workload, including prioritization of work
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Professional demeanor and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to remain flexible in potentially unpredictable situations, and adapt to various assignments and workflow
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft  Office applications
  • Familiarity with Legal Tracker, Exterro (Zapproved) Legal Hold, SAP, hCue, PO systems and Sharepoint

COMPENSATION

The pay range for this opportunity is from $76,300 to $103,050 + performance-related bonus + benefits.

This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. This role is also eligible to receive an annual bonus that aligns with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary and are based on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and location.
