**Position Summary

** Teleflex has an exciting opportunity within its in-house legal department for a highly motivated, experienced U.S. attorney to join the organization as Associate General Counsel responsible for handling intellectual property matters. This position will be located at Teleflex’s corporate headquarters in Wayne, PA. Candidates located in Morrisville, NC, or Maple Grove, MN, will also be considered.

**Principal Responsibilities

** The Associate General Counsel will have responsibility for assisting in the strategy, development, enforcement, and ongoing management of Teleflex’s IP portfolio, with a focus on patents but also including trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights, to ensure that the portfolio efficiently and effectively supports and protects the company’s long-term business strategy. This position will also be responsible for due diligence, counseling concerning mergers and acquisitions, and agreement work for licensing and other technology transactions. Specific roles and responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Acting as a direct contact for and interacting with colleagues and outside counsel regarding IP questions and/or issues.
  • Working with the company’s IP paralegal and outside counsel to prepare, file, and prosecute patent and trademark applications globally.
  • Performing patentability and trademark availability searches.
  • Performing patent and trademark freedom-to-operate clearance investigations.
  • Monitoring and assessing competitive patent landscapes.
  • Providing direct support to the company’s R&D activities for improving the company’s existing technology and generating new technology.
  • Performing due diligence of IP associated with the company’s merger and acquisition activities.
  • Managing the company’s IP litigation-related activities.
  • Drafting and negotiating technology agreements representing the company’s interests with third parties.
  • Performing legal and factual research as needed.
  • Representing the company as a presenter at legal conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

**Education / Experience Requirements

**

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university in engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of law firm and/or in-house IP experience.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating software license agreements is considered a plus.
  • Experience handling data privacy and/or cybersecurity matters is considered a plus.

  • Business acumen and an ability to provide legal advice in the context of strategic business initiatives and goals.
  • Experienced in patent portfolio development.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization, including R&D teams, marketing teams, business unit management, and executive management.
  • Familiarity and comfort with medical technologies relating to the company’s products, services, and overall business.
  • Results-oriented approach—high energy and a dedication to responsive service.
  • Personal and organizational accountability.
  • Performs role in a highly professional manner with high personal standards of excellence.
