**Job Description

** As Counsel you will be responsible for representing the organization and handling various legal matters, including complex matters, and leading projects and negotiations with specialized knowledge in commercial litigation. While this role largely involves North American commercial disputes and litigation, you may also oversee and advise on other disputes (e.g., real estate, patent, personal injury, property damage). You will be responsible for providing strategic counsel, advice, and legal services to management regarding disputes and litigation, projects and negotiations. You are responsible for retaining, managing, and collaborating closely with outside counsel on litigation. You may supervise and provide guidance to other legal team members.

**Responsibilities

**

  • Responsible for handling and leading disputes and litigation, complex legal matters, and projects with specialized knowledge in various practice areas with a concentration on commercial disputes and litigation.
  • Responsible for leading project teams and cross-functional groups on a wide range of legal and compliance matters.
  • Collaborates with business leaders and cross-functional teams to effectively mitigate commercial risks and support corporate strategies and business objectives.
  • Expertise in relevant legal practice areas and provides counsel related to those areas to business clients.
  • Provides practical and actionable advice to management on legal matters, including developments and changes in laws and regulations
  • Analyzes litigation risk and key metrics and collaborates with internal stakeholders on risk mitigation to prevent future litigation.
  • Supervises and provides direction to other team members and may lead a practice area

**Qualifications

**

  • J.D. required
  • IL, PA bar or other jurisdiction appropriate bar license required
  • Excellent academic credentials required
  • 5 years required of law firm experience or in-house department, preferably for a large corporation
  • 5 years of experience required as an attorney with subject matter expertise in relevant practice areas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex legal arguments clearly and persuasively
  • Proficient in e-discovery and depositions, motion practice, mediations, etc.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Responsible, accountable, client-focused person who showcases department well (e.g., responsive, knowledgeable, professional, timely), integrates well into the larger organization, and inspires trust, forges relationships quickly and earns the confident and cooperation of business partners.
  • Good business acumen, provides creative and practical solutions to problems
  • Team player who’s ready to join a truly collaborative and collegial department that values partnership and comraderie above individual success.
  • Adept at communicating in layman’s terms and delivering alternatives and solutions in clear, concise manner
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, adaptable, flexible, and manages multiple projects and competing priorities, and willing to get their hands dirty (e.g., roll up sleeves and do the heavy lifting)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to understand complex commercial transactions
  • Good at recognizing an issue, inquisitive, asks right questions and makes extra effort.
  • Good business partner
  • Curious, open-minded, adaptable, comfortable with change, and willing to learn new areas and skills
  • Excellent legal research skills
  • Technologically proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
